[00:24:18] Miraheze's seo isn't that great as it is. [00:35:43] [1/6] Enabling dark mode by default requires access to the LocalSettings.php file, on the FTP file server of the webhost. [00:35:44] [2/6] ```php [00:35:44] [3/6] $wgDefaultSkin = 'vector'; // or 'vector-2022' [00:35:44] [4/6] $wgVectorDefaultTheme = 'dark'; [00:35:45] [5/6] ``` [00:35:45] [6/6] Giving you access to those files opens up risk to Miraheze as a filehosting platform. Which is why someone that can be trusted to edit them is doing so. [00:37:22] [1/2] yall i have a kinda dumb question but this image positioning is bugging me SO. BAD. what parameters do i need to add to fix this 😭 [00:37:23] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446299377751691485/image.png?ex=69337ac2&is=69322942&hm=27f5cd0681511faa0168bebcdbdbc88e38bf654094b5b93f7fbc811dd44fe1a6& [00:37:35] [1/3] You could make a dark mode style as the default for common.css. [00:37:35] [2/3] As I have done here. [00:37:36] [3/3] [00:37:43] like why on earth is it a lil more towards the bottom [00:39:04] I assume that is a template. It just looks like there is top padding that needs reduced. [00:39:27] OH ok ill try messing w the padding and see if it gets fixed [00:40:03] I can take a look at it if you need. [00:41:09] [1/2] ok forgive me for this trashy text LOL [00:41:09] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446300327501496340/image.png?ex=69337ba5&is=69322a25&hm=14917104045d3567873475a953c6e0caa8ab923d165f9dd20db6db1d52e78f7d& [00:41:27] im just trying to get the templates out asap since the wiki is like brand new [00:42:04] also no matter how i adjust the padding under background [00:42:10] the image is STILL a lil towards the bottom [00:43:11] linkie to wikie? [00:43:13] Can you send me to your template page? [00:43:42] i havent made the template yet, im just trying to experiment on my userpage [00:43:45] https://darkesthours.miraheze.org/wiki/User:Klav [00:44:07] since im gonna be making like diff versions of this base for stubs, upcoming content bla bla bla [00:44:18] can u guys tell im a certified css newbie [00:59:14] [1/19] ```html [00:59:14] [2/19]

I usually do things in very small increments. I am new though. [04:28:52] I believe maintenance is over [04:30:19] Wait so are other people getting the 500 gateway error too? [04:35:53] yes [04:35:56] /were [04:39:21] Yippee... [05:57:14] [1/2] does this mean, just get more backlinks? [05:57:14] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446379872003031080/image.png?ex=6933c5b9&is=69327439&hm=1227ef11b1dcb59b501ecfcf13c1c7021052503285fc9a011fb8eef4626e0f89& [05:57:14] lmao [06:31:40] [1/4] So I have these infoboxes on the wiki I use for the music for my project. I'd like to make it so I don't have to add in formation to every row as they don't always apply so I want them to be able to be hidden just by not filling in that variable. Any help would be great since I'll use them for character templates as well. [06:31:41] [2/4] Here's the current code attached as well [06:31:41] [3/4] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446388539984969882/image.png?ex=6933cdcc&is=69327c4c&hm=90db7d829029a86c80c68910448d8f50156c59ff8b471b71fb5f296dd3ff1a4b& [06:31:41] [4/4] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446388540291285022/Infobox_Music_COPY.txt?ex=6933cdcc&is=69327c4c&hm=2982dd63e73041c648d797059c29539e3c735e0358b8c96ebc48f34aebc55715& [06:33:44] I'd love to make one infobox template and then make sub templates per type of infobox but not quite there yet in coding to be able to know how to set it up, so I'm sticking to each infobox being there own templates for now [06:47:26] nvm I figured it out [07:51:09] [1/4] making an entire row invisible if there's no data is done w/ parser function, but in such case it's recommended to use HTML tags instead of wiki table syntax (im not looking into txt, it's better to just link to template or use something like pastebin) [07:51:09] [2/4] I've made complicated table infoboxes on my own music wiki, if you are looking for examples [07:51:09] [3/4] but there's also PortableInfobox method which makes most things easier [07:51:10] [4/4] see also [[Infoboxes]] [07:51:10] [08:48:49] Cloudflare error [08:48:51] Its over [08:50:23] Lol, I was just about to come ask about it. =p [08:50:29] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446423472153559193/d2448e408c1240c9.png?ex=6933ee55&is=69329cd5&hm=8dfade5154f2e2e1f30c90d70838910def62738ea4ff6634a1dd1a1fb20be809& [08:50:40] I'm assuming this isn't something miraheze can do to fix? [08:50:52] Just when I was in my element doing tonnes of editing. =9 [08:51:04] there is no way cloudflare is down again [08:51:32] I was literally finishing a completely custom infobox template, now I just have to hope I can somehow get the edit back [08:51:43] boom [08:51:50] You can click Back to try and recover the window when it's back up? [08:52:04] oh yay [08:52:05] ty bro [08:52:18] I had that same issue so I enabled editor recovery. It restores what your had in the editor for a page. [08:56:44] Right as I wanted to save my first page on a wiki. [08:57:26] (Also, setting up a data repository to reference feels like a PITA, though I may just not know something) [08:57:40] ATM, my approach is a JSON page that I can query via lua. [08:57:55] To generate tables for inclusion in other pages [09:00:59] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446426116901568532/image.png?ex=6933f0cb&is=69329f4b&hm=ab0afcedb136baa7b2bd5cb815e7d2ca50faadcdc5ff0f6da934cc9ff523b1a5& [09:02:22] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446426465766736057/image.png?ex=6933f11e&is=69329f9e&hm=0b813429fd0ceb1c8450348ccd3eeb00c0c844c7acdd61f41c1ab08b84e48ee3& [09:12:27] oof [09:12:41] we're back [09:13:13] guys, old advice - before hitting save copy the entire code, even just keeping in clipboard might save you [09:14:00] my mind basically automatically does this after every major edit [09:14:08] it's deep in my instincts at this point [09:14:13] yup [09:14:15] Just navigating back did the trick for me [09:14:25] this might help, yes [09:14:29] or that extension [09:14:45] but i just do that automatically lol [09:14:50] Anyways, if anyone knows of a better way to deal with highly interconnected data I'd appreciate it. [09:14:55] since wikia days [10:18:00] https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Help:How_to_manage_structured_data#Lua_with_a_JSON_page How do I actually then include the LUA generated content? [10:21:38] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446446411007791274/1764930072565.jpg?ex=693403b2&is=6932b232&hm=40f60c7af04d7e59e1dc8c325ac93bf643345c758f61b24cdcb0c333ddcd8c12& [10:22:17] WTF?The photo which to be upload seems to be weird [10:22:55] Try toggling to light mode on the wiki [10:30:51] Ok, the trick was that I had to do `{{invoke:module|function}}` added that to the page (hopefully correctly) [10:39:14] Yep. That is not meant for beginners. Hopefully we can have some a lightweight Lua guide to link to at some point. [10:42:17] Eh, not that big a deal for me, I was just confused about the invoking aspect, and thought others could be, as well, so I just added it once I found out how to do it. [10:42:29] Figured that'd be in the spirit of a wiki [11:39:23] in the meantime https://battlecats.miraheze.org/wiki/The_Battle_Cats_Wiki:Lua/Getting_started might be useful. it's not been updated since the fandom days and it's specific to the bc wiki but it should still have some value [11:40:40] Oh I know enough lua to be dangerous with it :p [11:40:58] Just wasn't aware how to actually call a lua module in mediawiki [13:06:23] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446487873904967742/Screenshot_2025-12-05_080442.png?ex=69342a4f&is=6932d8cf&hm=750456a79ac723bf5d02093bbf8f56534f41cb71bf8685dc4eaca05943fe8492& [13:06:30] The annoying line... [14:52:48] It will be gone in 1.45 (), not sure whether there's an option to remove it before that [14:54:01] [1/2] > Some projects are already hiding this via site CSS. [14:54:01] [2/2] So there's probably no option in 1.44 [14:54:09] So long, Old Vector [14:54:50] ? [14:56:36] See I’ve heard there will no longer be an option that can switch to old look [14:57:02] it's the option in the sidebar [14:57:09] you can still change it under special prefs [15:00:11] that is if it isn't hidden [15:01:54] it just redirects you to user preferences [15:02:34] it was made just for 22 haters on wp after switch [15:02:44] i switched, ofc [15:06:32] Helo,, [15:14:42] hii [15:20:42] Hi! [15:41:54] [1/3] There are many wiki skins installed, the wiki admin can select that skin for their wiki. [15:41:54] [2/3] The default skin is Vector 2022 [15:41:54] [3/3] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446527007511810099/image.png?ex=69344ec1&is=6932fd41&hm=526975333baeb804f34c6eaf374d1c28db8cb3a82d7058357036e121d2377395& [15:44:41] [1/7] Changing the wiki appearance requires you to edit common.css. [15:44:41] [2/7] Which requires knowledge of CSS, HTML elements, and targets. [15:44:42] [3/7] To change the background something like. [15:44:42] [4/7] ```css [15:44:42] [5/7] body {background-image: url("paper.gif");} [15:44:43] [6/7] ``` [15:44:43] [7/7] Will need to be added to https://.miraheze.org/wiki/mediaWiki:Common.css [15:45:53] tl;dr - To change the background, you need to start learning the CSS scripting syntax. [16:04:56] wdym? [16:09:59] there are lots of free simple css tutorials online tbh [16:10:47] you make up content of your user page like normal wiki page, and yeah it's just linking [16:19:24] [1/2] is it possible to make an image with text? [16:32:45] What are you looking for? or do you need a list of all pages? [16:33:17] wiki/Special:AllPages [16:34:11] You can also search for images by searching for `[[File:`, which should work. [17:02:19] not that I'm aware of no, other than blanking the template with all those red links [17:06:34] omg that is actually a really good idea [17:07:19] there is Special:NewFiles (AllFiles?) and Special:AllPages [17:07:56] is there any way for me to add a category to specifically pages in Uncategorized files? [17:10:20] (i think???) it worked (the WantedPages page still hasn't updated since today at 5am, but when i click one of those red links' links, it says "nothing links here") [17:11:14] how can i make a page? [17:11:24] [1/2] by... editing them and adding the category manually..? [17:11:25] [2/2] theres also UncategorizedPages [17:11:29] change url [17:12:18] and how can i create a hyperlink to that page? [17:12:42] [[linkname]] [17:12:42] [17:12:50] [[How-to guides]] [17:12:51] [17:12:54] i meant a mass editing way. there are over 100 pages in there. [17:13:21] i already know about uncategorized pages and that is irrelevant to what i currently need [17:13:56] JavaScript Wiki Browser, MassEditRegex, AutoWikiBrowser etc. [17:14:48] JWB only requires JS and you can use plain text although I don't know if it has a categorisation mode like AWB has [17:14:57] i see, thank you [17:16:12] Are file names for including in a page case sensitive? [17:49:28] [2/5] UncategorizedPages lists pages without categories. [17:49:28] [3/5] DeadendPages lists pages that when arrived to don't have out wikilinks (you should have any of these). [17:49:29] [4/5] LonelyPages are also orphans. These are pages which no page on the wiki links to. [17:49:29] [5/5] WantedPages shows how many pages are linking to a page that doesn't exist. [18:01:04] How do I disable files from other wikis being used? [18:01:36] special:managewiki/settings → disable miraheze commons [18:02:26] ty [18:03:22] And instant commons / Wikimedia commons [18:04:05] [1/3] my problem is, there's like 300 entries in WantedPages and 99% of them is just from Template:Routemap and it makes finding my own stuff harder lol [18:04:06] [2/3] but i'll wait for the cache thing to update because i completely wiped out the docs page which had most of these links i think [18:04:06] [3/3] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446562790302154823/1764957844568.png?ex=69347015&is=69331e95&hm=788866a642cecdda14415918237238e367524bac13826aabdf687637e49f074b& [18:05:51] \:P Sound like you should make Template:Routemap [18:06:50] wot [18:06:52] it exists [18:06:57] andd i used it several times [18:08:11] Yet there is so much missing that it's clogging up wanted pages. [18:08:43] (You could probably just remove the redlinks from the offending pages also. [18:14:14] [1/2] i think i did that fairly well because nearly every "2 links" i click, it says "no pages link to X" [18:14:15] [2/2] so i guess i just gotta wait for this list to update...? [18:21:19] That's due to the many dependencies Wikipedia Templates have [18:21:45] oh hi it's you again :DD [18:21:54] You need to include all the dependencies, or delete te documentation pages [18:22:17] [1/3] i uh [18:22:17] [2/3] i deleted like 2 documentation pages [18:22:17] [3/3] idk where else to look for now lol [18:22:34] These documentation pages use a lot of other templates that are not necessary for the Template:Routemap to work [18:22:51] our wiki is private right? [18:22:57] iirc [18:24:51] Click on "`Template:Pp-template`" and then click in the toolbar on `What links here` [18:25:04] You likely find more documentation pages that way [18:51:20] I heard wikipedia templates is too complicated for other wikj uses [18:53:29] Too complicated ... depends on how well versed you are on Wikipedia itself [18:53:31] how to enable extensions? [18:53:55] [[Special:ManageWiki/Extensions]] [18:53:56] [18:54:14] Change "meta" to your own wiki's subdomain [18:54:24] You need bureaucrat perm to add or remove extensions tho [18:54:42] Pretty sure theres a tab where it shows the manage wiki section [18:54:52] And has all the links like core, etc [18:55:08] Depends on the skin [18:55:27] vector-2022 does indeed [18:56:03] [1/2] I can t see it here [18:56:03] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446575866288013382/image.png?ex=69347c42&is=69332ac2&hm=ae30db02df00d77bfa3c1a76ecf56f8bae2e31573607ee0bbf84a8e29fcc62d4& [18:56:33] What is it you want to enable? [18:56:43] You can use the search function [18:58:05] @rodejong idk its name, but here s the context [18:58:44] ? [18:59:15] click on the reply [19:00:05] VisualEditor [19:00:17] Btw @rodejong what extensions would you recommend for a wiki [19:00:27] I have visual editor & upload wiz on [19:01:06] Depends totally on what you want to do, how you want to present it, and how you want to use it [19:01:27] I personally never used Visual editor. [19:01:44] Hmm I see, I suppose there’s a lot of extensions for a lot of things [19:01:52] Editing Templates and Tables in VE is buggy [19:02:01] I do, makes it easier for me to edit without having to add
[19:02:15] And NOTOC? I have no idea what the hell is that [19:02:28] Yeah I can agree to that [19:02:30] It’s really buggy [19:02:48] NOTOC is what it means. "No Table of Content" the box that shows the main headers [19:02:48] But it makes things work so [19:02:59] Ohh alright [19:03:05] Like images [19:03:34] Nah, I rather like to make the editor for each wiki what I need it for [19:03:55] Fair enough [19:04:04] Oh its 2 am [19:04:09] I should grab some zs [19:04:22] On a weekend so that’s nice [19:04:36] Night [19:05:07] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446578144630018209/image.png?ex=69347e61&is=69332ce1&hm=abd63c875ff551b95e821f86fb10deaab7b411367ba6541b46c5a8828512da77& [19:16:13] I have enable it, but nothing happened? [19:17:07] You also need to enable it now in your preferences [19:17:33] Each user needs to enable this in their preferences [19:19:56] thanks [19:20:10] [1/2] how do I fix the logo [19:20:10] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446581936439951500/image.png?ex=693481e9&is=69333069&hm=227c8a2977d1cc33c0395af144afa6dd318c78346e76cccaf082cfdbcb01c57c& [19:20:30] What's wrong with it? [19:21:07] It looks good to me? [19:22:04] logo size must 135x135 px [19:22:53] [1/2] if you mean lack of margins, that's how it is [19:22:53] [2/2] you can add them to logo element via css, or add free space to logo itself [20:13:20] How can I use imported templates? [20:15:46] [1/2] wdym [20:15:46] [2/2] you ask how to use templates in general, or how to import? [20:16:19] I have imported some templates, but they don t appear [20:16:42] example? So I need stuff that's like characters and organisations and I chose Miraheze because it offers a lot more customisation [21:08:25] Customisation is apparently complicated tho [21:08:27] the idea of adding a default set of templates is there, yes, but implementing it is still far [21:08:31] But nothing i can't figure out [21:08:50] due to ManageWiki [21:09:02] also miraheze started like [21:09:51] it was initially aimed at people who know what they want/are doing, which isn't newbie friendly i agree, but it's been a long road to what we have now [21:10:05] we have dev wiki for templates atm [21:11:16] [1/2] as for customization, if you talk about css - that was same on wikia, years ago, before they forced single skin [21:11:16] [2/2] this is also why wiki.gg gives you only one skin too, because supporting multiple is hard [21:12:05] theme designer idea is there as well, it was discussed, but again not easy to implement due to sheer amount of options [21:13:33] [1/2] From what i can surmise, when like a miraheze admin creates a wiki they basically have like a default wiki that they create for someone. and that default starting wiki already has like a home page and a bunch of admin pages, adding like 1 template wiki with an example wouldn't be too difficult but I get what you're saying. Miraheze isn't really aimed at new people but keepin [21:13:34] [2/2] g it like experianced users only and not having levels of accessibility will do more harm than good in the long run. Already people don't really know about this wiki service and prefer to use fandom, chasing them away because ya know "it's not how we do things" is gonna be detrimental [21:15:16] [1/2] my opinion is - an admin gotta learn things anyway, you gotta learn wiki text and templates if you want your wiki to flourish [21:15:16] [2/2] we have guides, we are happy to help to newbies [21:16:13] Like I'm coming at this service with a level of experience but even I'm struggling, if I tried to do this like 2-3 years ago when I didn't have that prior experience even a guide wouldn't have been that helpful [21:16:32] I don’t know if I agree with “chasing them away”, actually more often than not its the other way around. The issue is packaging a template with wikicreation is practically pointless because there isn’t a one size fits all wikis template. Which is why [[dev:]] exists. [21:16:32] [21:17:44] Yeah I can understand that, but having to have someone to follow like 3 links just to use something that's pretty integral to a wiki is not great design [21:18:22] Frankly in the 9 years I’ve been on Miraheze, I would say we’ve made some pretty decent improvement on having resources for beginners. [21:19:58] The resources that are there currently are good enough, but a lot of them are still making an assumption that people have a degree of knowledge on these matters and some aren't as good as others [21:20:17] i wanna add that fandom makes thing too easy w/ its limitations - new users on miraheze often get lost w/ contrast of having so much things to use and large control [21:20:54] like what? [21:21:37] The reason Fandom doesn’t have the big learning curve is because they don’t offer nearly close to what we do for customization and such. [21:22:00] Yeah it's kinda like that difference between idk apple and android, like how apple smooths over it's technology to the point where it's really user friendly but a lot of the functionality suffers, and how android is a lot less user friendly but has a lot of functionality. But there is definitely a sweet spot between those two things [21:22:35] The analogy i tend to use for learning curve is that Miraheze is a semi steep slope with complexity, while fandom is a nice stroll into a brick wall [21:23:10] [1/2] i wouldn't call android unfriendly lol [21:23:10] [2/2] raider often uses windows vs linux analogy tho [21:24:21] I mean considering i use android and my parents use apple and watching them try and even like navigate an android product is almost pitiful i would kinda call it unfriendly to them [21:24:48] [1/2] like, again to what i said earlier, i personally try to encourage people to learn, to understand what they're doing [21:24:48] [2/2] some people come here and go "i want my wiki to look like pizza tower wiki" and i have to explain that pizza tower wiki is way too fancy and you better start w/ small steps in css basics [21:25:04] what's a css [21:25:16] things to make web look nice [21:25:46] coding 😨 [21:25:48] Yeah it's like basically what most websites are coded in [21:26:20] CSS is not what most websites are coded in [21:26:24] Not even close [21:26:24] coding is your friend if you wanna admin [21:26:47] Jeez sorry for making a mistake then [21:27:03] i remember when pre fandom rebranding wikis looked unique, sigh [21:28:01] Idk tech literacy is a very deceiving thing [21:28:10] dont you like have to ask fandom to enable css these days or something [21:28:14] i blame smartphones [21:28:38] me when the tech natives are nowhere to be seen and everyone is hooked on tiktok like it's crack [21:29:15] it's so bad even english skills aren't developing as well anymore on young people [21:29:16] I don't know if it's that strict but they definitely push you towards the theme manager [21:29:44] [1/2] Because when you are tech literate, and you know how things work, like if you know how to code in like C# or can design web pages, it almost seem incomprehensible that most people don't know how to use a computer. Like I don't mean "Yeah they don't know how to code" I mean "they can't turn it on" "they can't create a folder" "they can't put an application on a homescreen" ty [21:29:44] [2/2] pe shit [21:30:15] I think that depends a lot on when you grew up tbh [21:30:30] do such people even venture into wiki management? [21:30:41] Tech literacy only lasted like one generation tbh [21:30:53] even past having default set of templates you gotta do things [21:30:55] protip: give your children a desktop computer that you have to use a healthy amount of domestic violence on to keep in working order [21:31:05] lmao [21:31:19] When I first started school, we didn't have IT teachers [21:31:27] And we had like one printer for students [21:31:32] Which didn't work half the time [21:31:52] Like when I was in school I got taught python and we had like computer classes. My nephews don't even have a home computer, they don't have IT classes or anything of the sort [21:32:35] I'm going to sound old here but I remember office 365 being launched [21:32:48] i remember clippy [21:32:54] Like I'm gen Z, and I'm the only one in my family who is gen Z, but i am literally the only person who knows how to use a computer [21:33:20] Or has a computer for that matter [21:33:28] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446615478566125748/image.png?ex=6934a126&is=69334fa6&hm=377cf7fb9347c13d718d82f3953c2b569338af9cf64296bb62d15b5bc71f411f& [21:33:38] im afraid we went off the topic lol [21:33:39] My brother has a mac book and thinks that's a computer [21:33:50] It is a computer, it’s not a desktop [21:34:01] Yeah... I still wanna strangle him [21:34:21] me when I hear someone call a wiki a Wikipedia [21:34:26] /joking [21:34:33] Laptops are computers [21:34:33] Lol [21:34:41] They are [21:34:46] There are many types of computers [21:34:49] But yeah tech literacy is weird [21:34:52] So are MacBooks [21:34:53] But he doesn't use it like that [21:35:18] I have everything from huge towers, mobile workstations, lightweight laptops to single board computers [21:35:43] I’m pretty late Gen Z and the youngest in my small immediate family, I wouldn’t call either of my parents tech illiterate, but it is interesting the things I’m asked to help with [21:35:50] ill be honest i don't use visual editor and don't advice anyone lol [21:35:54] Nah like when I mean i have a computer I mean I literally use a laptop. But my laptop is like 10kg and can run cyberpunk 2077 on full specs [21:36:15] I have a laptop that calls itself a mobile workstation [21:36:27] That weighs a fair bit [21:36:46] Mainly in the vain of how do I do X when I have literally never have never touched the software before lol [21:36:46] I needed a pc that I could take on the train so I could travel with it for university [21:36:47] 3kg [21:37:17] chunky [21:37:18] My laptop is a decent size, with not much in the way of stats to show for it lol [21:37:51] There's nothing better than the stink eye you get when you can crack out a laptop on the train and start playing high spec video games infront of your friends [21:38:06] I did that on the way back from a comicon once and they were pissed with me [21:38:15] aight ima go put stickers on my laptop keys [21:38:49] Heck yeah [21:39:23] [1/2] Reminds me of this [21:39:23] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446616973139247226/IMG_9956.jpg?ex=6934a28b&is=6933510b&hm=f1e893dc39a0e74f863ab24c4eea762cc1951c0cd09b53b9a71e912d63379bf6& [21:39:50] LOL [21:41:08] Unfortunately I had like a stupid little chromebook i used to lectures, but I so badly wanted to bring my full setup into class once [21:41:19] It would have taken like 10-15 minutes to set up tho [21:43:23] Idk my skill sets kinda confuse people, because I have a bachelors in biology, I work as a creative writer for fantasy series, and I spend my time doing shit like make wikis and mod packs for games [21:43:45] :DoneMH: a:bcaThumbsUpYes: [21:43:51] oh god the Chromebook trauma [21:44:08] Wow, fascinating combination [21:44:09] Chromebook's are very good at what they were designed for [21:44:14] Anything else, almost useless [21:44:19] Glad some of us think so [21:44:25] Yeah it's now a second screen now that the keyboard went caput [21:44:52] [[wikt:kaput]] [21:44:53] [21:44:53] <_arawynn> I never had a laptop to take along when I went to school and the likes... [21:44:57] Good for YouTube and... well YouTube [21:45:17] Close enough [21:45:18] My high school uses them for students [21:45:25] I mean, they get wen stuff done [21:45:41] I am dyslexic [21:45:55] Idk my school had no such thing [21:46:12] My parents got me a chromebook like idk 6? 7? years ago [21:46:22] Which they are great for if you want to deploy a couple of thousand portable thin clients to access Google classroom quickly [21:46:43] That won't blue screen half way through an update like windows does [21:46:54] my boomer trait is not wanting to write actual documents in google word [21:47:07] Basically [21:47:11] ..Docs [21:47:21] Don't use docs [21:47:29] it went right over your head [21:47:38] That's what they were made for though. They are perfect at it. [21:47:42] They deleted like 3 of my works for not adhering to their guidelines [21:47:46] <_arawynn> [1/2] my school was getting a computer per classroom for the teachers during the later years of my time there [21:47:46] <_arawynn> [2/2] and at trading school, there was a certain number of computers for the students to use in the class rooms we had our courses at 😂 [21:48:09] notepad my beloved [21:48:51] Google docs destroyed my lesbian fanfiction, and with that the world became a darker place [21:48:53] Notepad is awesome [21:49:04] NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO [21:49:19] NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 💔💔💔💔💔 [21:49:28] i genuinely wanted to tear up a little [21:49:38] It was a loss to us all [21:49:41] i knew it was bad in australia but damn [21:49:53] though that may or may not be related to me crying for nearly two hours when i woke up [21:49:58] It wasn't even the worst thing I've written either, and they like full on scrubbed it from my account [21:50:08] I still remember what an actual physical notebook is [21:50:11] now i use nano [21:50:24] i have one [21:50:40] [1/2] The Chromebooks with Intel Celeron is actually really good in term of performance and battery life. [21:50:41] [2/2] It just that these things have very low amount of RAM that turn themselves into ewaste. [21:50:53] i love having mismatched skillsets [21:51:15] hobbyist programmer and computer breaker at day, endocrinologist at night [21:51:20] it's great [21:51:41] Ohhh endocrinology can be curious [21:52:03] Mm [21:52:03] i'm trans, which means that i know more about my healthcare than my doctors do /hj [21:52:11] You guys have yet to make a hormone that fully cures my depression tho [21:52:19] Mine sometimes stalls going to a login page [21:52:21] ouch 💔 [21:52:28] depends on what your depression is caused by [21:52:38] how do i cure capitalism [21:52:42] for me, my day-to-day depression was caused by biochemical dysphoria [21:52:50] so when i took hrt, boom depression gone [21:52:53] :GunGun: take this [21:53:02] /jk [21:53:19] don't forget your local etsy witches [21:53:37] Yeah mine is just good ol lack of happy juice in the brain [21:53:42] oh [21:53:58] What has caused that lack tho is a mystery to both you and me [21:54:11] And also my psychologist [21:54:29] we probably will never know, and doctors will deem it female hysteria or something stupid like that lol [21:54:50] consider seeing a psychiatrist as well [21:55:23] Oh no like 100% last time I went to a gp my doctor fully tried to tell me my depression was caused by periods and literally nothing else [21:55:27] a:bcaThumbsUpYes: [21:55:32] how did i fucking call it [21:55:38] i was kinda joking!! [21:55:44] classic doctor moment [21:55:48] Hint, kinda [21:55:54] true [21:56:06] also, seeing what we know about testosterone and estrogen can be very... let's say annoying [21:56:09] 10/10 doctor moment [21:56:20] [1/3] > The impact of androgens on erythropoiesis are well documented if not completely understood [21:56:20] [2/3] > Androgens are known to stimulate erythropoiesis while the impact of estrogens are not as well understood [21:56:20] [3/3] i wonder why [21:57:11] I mean when I was choosing like what I wanted to specialise in, I read "too much and too little estrogen can make you depressed" and instantly noped tf out [21:57:25] I then ended up doing paleontology because... [21:59:33] there's one trans woman where pills just Stopped Working for no reason, so she had to switch to injections [22:00:05] they're much better anyway [22:00:10] who likes using the liver [22:00:21] and getting a bazillion side effects [22:00:26] i want to get estrogen implants >:) [22:00:36] hopefully my doctor will agree to shove hrt up my ass 🙏 [22:00:42] isn't there like one [22:01:02] I do find it funny that like people think hormone fluctuations is what makes women "unstable" but literally after menopause hormonally speaking there isn't too many differences between biomen and biowomen and what they're calling "unstable emotional outbursts" is literally something they also do. It's just another way sexism is done [22:01:03] mine is a cumulative risk of meningioma [22:01:03] the piss your pants side effect of also having to take antiandrogens [22:01:09] #offtopic please [22:01:13] true [22:01:13] that's specifically for spirono- oh sorry [22:01:24] Sorry [22:01:46] No need to apologise, we're amazing at forgetting we're going off on a tangent [22:02:20] as a certain person can attest /hj [22:02:42] Ah yes, the wiki special of "Yeah this kinda doesn't relate but sure I'll tell you about wolf populations in nazi germany" [22:14:33] is there any colors you think look bad on a wiki/s theme? [22:15:17] idk wikis aren't excluded from safe web design lol [22:15:56] all depends on how you put colors together [22:17:00] that's said, red for normal links color is BAD idea [22:18:44] The StP wiki does that and it's so confusing 😭 [22:19:09] I think bright, eye blinding colors look awful, see Reception Wikis [22:20:57] they can be good, whoever css'd rw's just didn't have color theory knowledge lol [22:21:13] Unless they're causing accessibility issues (common) idm bright colors in web design tbh [22:21:24] yeah [22:21:55] i love eyesore in images but admit eyesore in text puts some strains on me poor eyes [22:22:34] A small amount may work as like a highlight but not the hudge mounts I think of [22:23:14] i mean, acceptable for personal purposely obnoxious looking static web site lol [22:23:50] Also, some main pages (looking at RWs... re awful) [22:24:45] we don't talk about rws lol [22:24:49] kinda [22:26:50] Even USEP wiki I thought "Maybe do not display over ayear of news on your main page, it looks awful" [22:27:43] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446629136260137123/Screenshot_from_2025-12-05_22-27-31.png?ex=6934addf&is=69335c5f&hm=13d61d97b61b8709cfe5a3e88107ee9f4d334ccec10ade6da318303108272a8e& [22:45:18] I tend to stay away from pure white and pure black due to extremely high contrast (which can also cause accessibility issues just as low contrast can) [22:53:51] [1/4] I'm currently making a custom infobox and there's an element that I wanted to hide when no information is supplied. [22:53:52] [2/4] I'm using the "{{#if}}" parser function to return nothing when the parameter is empty, but it doesn't remove the element entirely and instead replaced it with

[22:53:52] [3/4] Is this intended? [22:53:52] [4/4] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446635712643465351/image.png?ex=6934b3ff&is=6933627f&hm=719070615faa1a1e07d0ee231ceaf3ac934b6c72b5c2abd9eeb929a714299290& [22:55:11] hmm, hard to tell why this could happen w/o seeing template code but i suspect a line break somewhere in the code occurring [22:55:48] also you really aim to use classic infoboxes? [22:56:09] to post links you gotta #verify [22:56:44] If they use flex I'd assume they know enough CSS but not enough wikitext quirks. [22:57:43] I read about the 3 types of infoboxes but I don't really know which type this is, I use a mix of css and html [22:58:38] tables are more more convenient for infobox coding than divs tbh [22:58:55] but again, parser functions ... [22:59:33] [1/3] There's was an old thread about the empty spaces produced by `{{#if`. I can't find it now, but here are some short examples on similar phenomena. [23:01:47] [2/27] ``` [23:01:47] [3/27] {{#invoke:Products|singleProduct|{{{1}}}|name}} [23:01:47] [4/27] {{#invoke:Products|singleProduct|{{{1}}}|landtype}} [23:01:47] [5/27] {{#invoke:Products|singleProduct|{{{1}}}|storageCapacity}} [23:01:48] [6/27] {{#invoke:Products|singleProduct|{{{1}}}|installationPrice}} [23:01:48] [7/27] ``` [23:01:48] [8/27] this is in the template [23:01:49] [9/27] ``` [23:01:49] [10/27] {{Template:Product|apple}} [23:01:49] [11/27] ``` [23:01:50] [12/27] this is on the page that uses the template ```lua [23:01:50] [13/27] function p.singleProduct(args) [23:01:51] [14/27] local key = args[1] [23:01:51] [15/27] local val = args[2] [23:01:52] [16/27] local result = {} [23:01:52] [17/27] for _, product in ipairs(data) do [23:01:53] [18/27] table.insert(result, "curr prod"..product['key']) [23:01:53] [19/27] if (product['key'] == key) then [23:01:54] [20/27] table.insert(result, "found product"..key) [23:01:54] [21/27] return table.concat(result, '\n') [23:01:55] [22/27] end [23:01:55] [23/27] end [23:01:56] [24/27] return key [23:01:56] [25/27] end [23:01:57] [26/27] ``` [23:01:57] [27/27] this is the function I am trying to call [23:02:49] I also tried to have key and val directly in the function signature, but that didn't work either [23:04:30] [1/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446638388781256784/image.png?ex=6934b67d&is=693364fd&hm=5dd4f95c482695addf9daf72595a563922544ae6ee8f3aaeb3a0d06e5d1a102b& [23:04:30] [2/2] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446638390232612864/image.png?ex=6934b67d&is=693364fd&hm=6a8f7009f23e5d3b639fbb8cc5bac6a09754ffb139d4843b268938d9b9e310dc& [23:04:55] Ah, I have to use named args? [23:05:30] TY [23:05:33] No. `p.singleProduct(frame)`, and then use `frame.args` [23:06:12] frame.args[1] and frame.args[1], right? [23:06:52] Yep, that worked [23:07:01] Yeah https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Scribunto/Lua_reference_manual#frame.args [23:08:19] Sorry for so many stupid questions [23:11:25] I blame it on the lack of good Lua references. The Scribunto manual is a good reference but not a good guide. [23:13:08] The lua itself isn't my main problem, but calling the lua from mediawiki interface is what keeps tripping me up [23:25:27] Thanks this is exactly what I needed, I found a work around now. All I had to do was placing the first #if on the same line as the container's

and the rest on the same line where the closing brackets of the last function is placed [23:53:45] if i disable a site theme on my wiki does it change for everybody else [23:54:24] i want to disable the timeless theme on my wiki because it's ugly and i don't like handling it but it was the default before i switched to citizen as the main theme [23:56:49] [1/2] if you mean changing default skin in additional settings -> style, then yeah it will be default skin for everyone [23:56:50] [2/2] an individual user however is free to change skin personally, just for themselves, in preferences [23:57:28] https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/407537962553966603/1446651720867254475/f0a0abb2dc7e96ce16fa45cfb5474fb4.png?ex=6934c2e7&is=69337167&hm=66a628a5c68e09bd02603ee5e64be428c314df57be8cddebccd395398c513637& [23:57:36] i mean if i get rid of the rest of the skins from here [23:58:11] i switched citizen to default but i'm thinking i'm just going to remove the rest of these
