[13:37:31] Google Code-io 2019 buddy meet is live here https://meet.google.com/zyx-urga-mvv, If anyone wants to join, we are happy to welcome :) [13:37:45] *Google Code-in 2019 [13:39:10] ^ This is an optional info session for Google Code-in Wikimedia mentors (as GCI starts today). There is another video session at 18:00 UTC today. [17:19:25] It seems like the api that lists uploaded images is not updating with new information (images). For example, see https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:NewFiles [17:20:24] Notice that it shows a couple from September, a few from March (2019), and then only as recently as February does it show the volume of uploads I'd expect. Is this problem known? [17:22:42] do you know of any more recent uploads to mediawiki.org? [17:22:58] I wouldn’t be surprised if that information is accurate and uploads to mediawiki.org just aren’t that common [17:23:06] (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:ListFiles has the same files btw) [17:23:13] No, but the volume seems to have dropped off noticably after last February [17:24:02] https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Log/upload also agrees [17:25:10] yup [17:25:35] Looks like local uploads have been restricted to administrators and uploaders, which would mean fewer uploads [17:26:25] AntiComposite: When was that change? [17:26:28] https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T217523 [17:26:36] Looks like 7 Mar 2019 [17:26:44] Aha [17:30:14] Is there a better endpoint (on the mediawiki API) for finding Creative Commons - Licensed content from wikipedia than the query list allimages function? [17:31:34] What are you trying to do with it? [17:33:20] I'm trying to get a list of images that were added 'recently' to wikipedia. We (Creative Commons) use it to populate a DB for an image search for CC-licensed content [17:33:56] Sounds a lot like Special:RecentChangesLinked in some way [17:34:45] Added as in included in an article or added as in uploaded? [17:35:58] Either, I think [17:36:29] The main goal is to get index as many CC-licensed images as possible, and wikipedia is a pretty good source for such content [17:37:10] I guess we don't care too much what the actual location of the image is. [17:47:53] You'd probably want to look at the Wikimedia Commons upload feed, since that's where most of the freely-licensed content is [17:48:41] The RSS feed, you mean? [17:52:11] Actually, I found the relevant page: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:NewFiles . Is there a separate API (other than the mediawiki API) that serves that page? [17:54:06] Seemingly not [17:54:13] You would use https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/API:Logevents with upload [17:54:46] Doesn't necessarily give all the same functionality though [17:56:54] Filed https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T239639 as a feature request [18:00:02] That's awesome, thanks! [18:00:33] Let me talk with people on my end also before you all do too much on my behalf, though. [18:02:08] Creating a bug has no guarantee it'll be fixed any time soon though :( [18:03:47] I appreciate it, regardless. I'll try to figure out how we can use the current functionality in the meantime. [18:58:49] mathemancer: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T239639#5706307
