[03:39:34] Hi! I am attempting to figure out why the Monobook appearance is broken when I attempt to select it. It used to work correctly (produce a green dark theme) and now it has ceased to work at all. [03:41:45] <[[Cameron]]> Poke Krenair can you assist? [03:42:32] <[[Cameron]]> Poke Izhidez [03:42:44] hang on my keyboard is acting up again... [03:43:57] Okay, so I asked on wikipedia-help chat and they said the theme has never been dark green. Thus, I am confused because something used to make Wikipedia change in that manner. To help with accessibility in my regard. [03:44:34] EvilXANA on which wiki [03:44:44] English Wikpedia. [03:47:07] During the last week, elements of Vector began to bled through, such as in the sidebar and logo. Then eventually the dark and green changes stopped altogether. Now I am trying to figure out what I did in the first place. [03:47:17] i think that was a gadget many years ago [03:48:14] or a custom user change in Special:MyPage/monobook.css [03:48:43] most lkely [03:49:25] I really don't have the technical knowledge to have done that. So, I don't know how to bring it back. [03:50:49] I did something to make it easier to read which resulted in a dark background with green font coloring. I have not changed any Gadgets for years upon years, so it could have been reverted at some point within the last week. [03:58:57] So I figured it out mostly. The gadget known as 'Use a black background with green text on the Monobook skin' had gotten disabled somehow. I re-enabled it and one part of the issue resolved itself. [04:00:56] However, the articles look strange still. For instance, the site retains a while background, the text on the sidebar remains blue, and the table of contents remains blue-on-white. [04:16:55] EvilXANA, yes, that gadget doesn't fully change the interface to the desired highcontrast theming [04:18:00] Aww... Yeah, it used to work perfectly, but now it only does a half-job. How can I get a true high-contrast theme working? [04:27:47] ...because the gadget is quite outdated, and as I said earlier if stuff is not being eventually updated, stuff tend to break. The definition of that gadget is on [[MediaWiki:Gadget-Blackskin.css]] , but since only sysops and interface-edtors can edit that, propose edits on it's talk page, or better yet bring back your issue on [[Wikipedia:Help desk]] referencing the gadget page so that [04:27:47] the issue will be more visible and you get more chances of it being fixed. As I reproduced your problem (and also the gadget causes to show two wgLogo's without the ability to click on some items in the sidebar, so stuff if overlapping lol) [04:33:51] Or you can point that to the channel you initially asked that in, so #wikipedia-help [04:34:21] This user went there earlier and they were suggested to come here instead. [04:35:16] I'm referring to them saying that the skin was newer dark, but they seem to have been forgot about the gadget existence [04:37:43] As the majority nowadays uses Vector which dosn't have high contrast option, and that gadget is hidden from the list if any other skin than MonoBook is selected - as per the gadget definition [04:38:02] SwisterTwister [04:38:18] I see. [04:38:47] Yes, I imagine that is how the gadget got disabled. I switched themes because I thought that the high-contrast would follow and to fix the breakage. That of course meant switching back and forgetting about the gadget. [04:41:44] I added the issue to the help desk wiki page as you suggested. [04:43:06] Do you believe I also should bring it to the attention of wikipedia-help, or is the Help Desk enough? [04:48:33] EvilXANA , another platform about this is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical) [04:49:59] Thanks so much for your assistance. I'll consider bringing it up there as well.
