[08:24:19] Oh, today GCI announcements :) [12:35:38] hello everybody. could someone help me understand why there's nothing in https://no.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Gadgets even though I've created https://no.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition ? [16:50:49] Hi [16:50:56] I have a number of source files in EPS format [16:51:15] Commons/Mediawiki doesn;t use EPS [16:51:24] So an attempt was made to convert to SVG [16:51:52] which is fine, except that the Inkscape import does a rather roundabout route via Ghostscript and a PDF import... [16:52:05] (on files which probbaly aren't that clean to begin with [16:56:04] So my frist question is as follows... Is there a way to render EPS in mediawiki? [16:56:06] We need to have something runnable, a sequence of scripts, and yes, we can personalize it by extension, so that would be possible; [16:56:45] The alternative would be to get out the bullwhip and ask the Ghostscript programmer to add SVG output.... [16:57:10] (and remember that they are ghostscript programmers not GIMP progammers ;) ) [16:58:46] ShakespeareFan00: I don't have any of the answers you're looking for but thought I would quickly mention that Inkscape can quickly convert EPS to SVG via command line. If I recall correctly, it looks like "inkscape foo.eps -l foo.svg". [16:58:57] Yes [16:59:06] But the conversion leaves a LOT to be desired [16:59:28] I have had to "clean up" nearly ALL the conversions before they were acceptable quality wise [16:59:51] GhostScript is rather old [16:59:56] And of course the issues with SVG rendering on Wikikmedia projects are in Phabricator [16:59:57] main development were in 90s [17:00:16] Dereckson: Last release was in October 2015... [17:00:31] and it is at least AGPL ( Affero) [17:01:33] yeah it's still maintained [17:04:38] https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T126238?workflow=create [17:05:02] I really do need some feedback [17:05:36] Because otherwise I would be able to get a lot further on something at Wikisource, [17:05:52] the EPS->PNG tools I have aren't ideal either [17:06:23] Ifranview's aliasing isn't good... and GSView doesn't even have a full color PNG output option :( [17:32:52] Of course the other PROBLEM the EPS files have is that they have mebbed propriatry font data :( [17:33:03] *embedded [17:33:11] Well I tried [17:33:13] :( [17:43:50] is login to wikitech broken for anyone else?
