[13:14:14] I can't access stat1002, Stalls after initial 'authenticating ...' msg (is this the right channel to ask?) [13:42:01] Hi guys. Curious, why are /both/ redis and memcached used? They are both in-memory key-value datastores IIRC, I don't see why both are needed? http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_servers#mediaviewer/File:Wikimedia_Server_Architecture_%28simplified%29.svg [13:43:39] Ah, just reading http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Redis now [13:48:27] KnightsWhoSayNi: basically, memcached has been used as an object cache for a long time. much mroe recently, wikimedia has started to use redis for message resp. job queues. [13:49:02] i suppose the memcacehd instances could be replaced by redis. but i guess it won't happen until there is a need to move away from the current memcached services. [13:49:16] never touch a running system serving a hundred thousand requests per second... [13:58:56] DanielK_WMDE: understood, thanks for the explanation :) [14:00:09] Really happy to see such openness about the technical stack - plenty to learn for system administrators. [20:49:44] Ano [20:49:51] Grr
