[00:12:48] Is anyone here very familiar with MassMessage? [00:16:39] Pine: legoktm is ;-) [00:16:47] Pine: hi [00:17:31] legoktm: hi. I am interested in using MassMessage to send the Signpost to all recently active editors on English Wikipedia. Is there a way to get MassMessage to do this? [00:17:49] The goal is to engage more editors with the broader community. [00:17:51] eh [00:17:57] you'd need to compile the list yourself [00:18:25] OK, if I did that would MassMessage be able to do the job? [00:18:33] though, while well-intentioned, I think people would consider that to be spamming [00:18:42] yeah, it could do it, but I'm not sure its a good idea [00:20:59] I'm going to discuss this with Ed. We'd definitely want to have an opt out. [00:21:16] I think the complaining will be minimal though. [00:21:40] People can hardly be too upset if we use user talk pages for their intended purpose as long as we offer them an opt out. [00:23:45] I think you'd be suprised what people get upset over [00:28:19] MrZ-man: I think some people enjoy having something to yell about. I'm not too worried about them. [00:28:30] They can opt out easily enough. [00:29:19] "But I didn't get 6 months to opt-out before it started, rabble, rabble rabble!" [00:33:55] MrZ-man: that happens even when we put things through RfCs. [00:34:50] People complain that they didn't know about the RfC and it's invalid for some reason so it should be overturned. [00:37:49] People complain about everything. It's very discouraging, trying to make any kind of forward progress. [01:37:49] jorm: Yes, complaining can be discouraging. Fortunately by doing RfCs ahead of time it puts the complaints in context. This is one reason I like RfCs. It sometimes shows that the supporters have much larger numbers. [01:39:02] Or, you have a minority of people who actually pay attention to RFCs making bad decisions for the majority. [01:39:26] "overwhelming consensus" in even the largest RFCs only touches less than 1% of the editor base. [01:47:28] yes that is an issue also, but it is the best option that we have I think [01:47:46] Most of the time I think RfCs end as they should [08:53:18] hey all, I sorted wikipedia articles by article's pagerank (generic, not Google's), and exported a list here: https://archive.org/details/en_wikipedia_article_titles_by_pagerank_dated_20131202.txt [08:54:01] I want to use it to make xml dumps of arbitrary size with highly ranked info making the cut first [08:54:41] I have some USB sticks I wanna give my friends and family copies of enwiki on as a holiday present [08:55:55] I already have some huge XML files my script has spat out but I'm not sure what the category info is for, I want to format it in a way thats compatible with as many dump readers as possible [08:57:35] I tried just putting it in, in pagerank order, not from 0 up to 10638571 [09:00:21] do I need to reorder the ID's from 0? [09:00:37] do I need to recalculated the SHA-1 after doing so? [09:32:10] incase my wifi cuts out and has ideas please do email luke.stanley on the gmail domain, thanks! [09:53:12] Nemo_bis: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58159 [09:58:48] p858snake|l: sure, it's a reminder :) [09:59:19] we don't have a component for MediaWiki release though :/ [11:54:02] morning all - getting 403 Permission Denied errors on tools.wmflabs.org today, doesn't matter which developers tools I'm using. [12:01:57] apergos, akosiaris might this be related? ^^ [12:02:35] pretty much [12:03:21] I'm trying to reach coren now (sent an sms via my phone, which claimed to be sent but perhaps got swallowed, trying the sms->email info now to see if that nets any result) [12:03:55] er email to sms rather [12:10:27] twkozlowski: \O/ [12:13:04] ? [13:42:09] I'll respond here too so it's on the record, already left voicemail a while ago [17:23:14] why is this banner gone? https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralNoticeBanners/edit/WMNL_banner_review_annual_plan_WMNL_banner_review_annual_plan [18:37:25] did anyone find Coren ?
