[11:23:26] is anyone around who knows anything about network stuff? I'm having weird internet problems. it has nothing to do with wikidata but since this is one of the few things that's still working, I figured I might as well ask :P [11:25:07] basically I keep getting errors about unknown hosts or no route to host, but a couple of sites will still work and existing connections seem to keep working... I thought dns, but using "host" finds ip addresses, "ping" does too (100% packet loss), I'm also connected to a server via ssh and it works fine, but if I try to open a new connection to the same server I get no route to host [11:30:40] it's been happening on and off for the past couple of weeks and affects all the computers on the network, so I thought maybe it's the router/modem from the isp... but I always blame that [11:36:04] nikki: sounds like a routing problem at your isp [11:36:32] you can try traceroute (or tracert or mtr) to find the difference between routes that work and routes that don't [11:38:12] nikki: a couple of years ago, accessing gerrit from Germany got really slow in the afternoon. It turned out to be a link saturation issue, changing the peering config on the wmf cluster fixed it [11:38:51] if you can identify the routes that have issues, tell your isp [11:43:42] thanks [11:52:33] although not sure telling our isp will help. they're useless [11:56:56] and I still can't get over the fact they've given us a router/modem that can only do local networking when it has an internet connection [11:57:25] and when we asked about it, they told us that's normal... even though the previous one they gave us could do it perfectly fine [13:36:49] PROBLEM - puppet last run on wdqs1004 is CRITICAL: CRITICAL: Puppet has 1 failures. [18:01:45] the publishers call it a 'facsimile'
