[16:37:10] so that there's a visual distinction between where, say, the präsens ends and präteritum starts? [16:45:47] I filled it out and then clicked the erweitet link to see what that was about and it took me to a new page with nothing filled out [16:46:04] seems like it should be at the top if it's not going to remember what I already entered [16:47:34] https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L21308 :D [16:48:45] Hi! I have a figure skating ontology question but I'm all alone working on that, so anyone working on sports modelling here? [16:49:18] I thought I'd picked a nice normal regular verb though and then got to the end and was like "ge...miaut? that sounds wrong" and now I have no idea why it's not regular D: [16:49:22] hi Harmonia_Amanda! [16:49:34] hi nikki :) [16:50:26] I'm not working on sports modelling, but if you have nobody else to ask, I'm here [16:50:56] okay, I'll just explain it all here and if my idea is really absurd, that should provoke reactions :p [16:51:26] so, figure skating competitions are most of the time actually several competitions into one [16:51:38] men, women, pairs and ice dance [16:52:28] and each of these sport discipline will have several parts [16:53:04] like, for ice dance in most international competition you have a rythm dance and a free dance, each scored separately [16:53:24] and it's the addition of the score which determinate who win [16:53:52] but sometimes you will have only one part, or several [16:54:12] like, instead of a free program you will have a jump competition, or a figures one, etc. [16:54:48] right now Wikidata doesn't state clearly what the sport event is [16:55:18] so you have no way to know in the data if it's a short program, a free one, a jump competition, etc. [16:55:38] it's only stated in the label, which is not very good for querying :p [16:56:04] and I have actually no real idea of how other sports handle that [16:58:42] right now we are using "sport season" (Q27020041) for the main item of a competition (Lombardia Trophy 2018), "figure skating competition" (Q2990963) for the specific one (men's singles at the Lombardia Trophy 2018) and "sporting event" (Q16510064) for the parts (men's singles short program at the Lombardia Trophy 2018) [16:59:01] and I'm like, really not happy with that because it's a real mess to query [16:59:34] anyone with a bright idea at this point? [17:01:07] do you have any idea of another sport so clearly separated in disciplines which would have clean data that I could copy the model of? [17:03:27] (did I kill you all?) [17:03:48] I don't know of anyone else doing so much work on sports stuff :/ [17:03:53] what makes it messy to query? [17:04:09] I have all the disciplines together [17:04:26] and scores vary widely from one discipline to another [17:04:56] they are not even scored exactly the same way, even though they are using the same TES/PCS system (the scales vary) [17:05:34] and I have all events together, short and free, jumps and figures [17:06:23] which make it really difficult to track the progression of scores for say ladies' free program [17:08:44] it doesn't look like there is a clear way right now to indicate which discipline a competition is for. P:sport doesn't accept disciplines as value for example [17:09:07] we only have a property stating for people what discipline they are practicing, not for events… [17:10:40] would it make sense to expand that property to cover disciplines? or perhaps make a new property? [17:11:01] not sure because in most cases the constraint is correct [17:11:16] I'm not sure a new property is needed, in fact [17:11:29] I thought we could create items for the discipline competitions: men's singles figure skating competition, ladies' singles figure skating competition, synchronized skating competition, etc. [17:12:04] that sounds reasonable [17:12:22] and then, we could create events items [17:12:53] "men's singles short program" (description: specific event in a figure skating competition) [17:13:26] because there is not that many different form of competitions, most will have the standard short/free [17:13:50] and requirements for these programs changed over time, which we could state in these items [17:14:56] so all in all, we could create ~30 new items to revamp entirely the modeling on figure skating competitions [17:16:04] but then it would allow to query for competitions which had a jump event, for example [17:16:46] that all sounds fine to me [17:17:59] okay [17:18:33] so, I guess I'll have my hands full in the next few days ^^ [17:18:48] (lucky me, most of the data is still missing!) [17:31:55] nikki: by the way, any idea how to handle novice/junior/senior aspects? (age restrictions for a competition) [17:39:44] nikki: sorry, I was afk for a bit [17:39:48] actual LOL @ your example verb [17:40:04] I’ll try to implement preserving input when switching to advanced mode [17:40:19] not sure if different sections are easy to do though [18:04:53] nikki: some of the items actually already exist, totally empty of data but still \o/ [18:05:09] I'll just have to complete them and use them instead of creating them :) [18:12:32] Alⅼаһ iѕ dഠing [18:12:32] suᥒ iѕ nοt doіnɡ Αⅼlaһ іѕ doⅰng [18:12:32] mοoᥒ іѕ nоt doing Aⅼlɑh iѕ doіng [20:02:16] nikki: switching to advanced mode should now keep your inputs, thanks for the suggestion!
