[mediawiki/extensions/SemanticMaps] (master) C: 0; - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/23942 [10:22:57] cjv [10:23:11] hi everyone [10:32:20] New review: Nischayn22; "I do remember things, and see how I made silly mistakes a month earlier :P" [mediawiki/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki] (master); V: 0 C: 0; - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/19378 [10:38:38] someone know tutorial to help begining to create news pages in SMW with others extensions or not? [10:41:59] what do you mean with "news pages" in connection with "others extensions"? [10:43:26] The SMW.org site makes use of semantics to publish ordinary pages as news; is there anything in that use that makes that you cannot use it? [10:46:18] the idea is: i install PHP + Apache + MySQL + MediaWiki + Semantic Media Wiki, but i don't know exactly how i can start create, for example, new pages using extension Semantic Forms. [10:47:17] well there's no overarching tutorial, but every component has its documentation [10:47:41] Furthermore, you could visit the SMW conference in october; there's a whole day of tutorial trainings [10:48:06] (plus you get to visit Cologne :-) [10:48:07] http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/SMWCon_Fall_2012 [10:49:20] creating a new page from an existing form is as simple as visiting the form's page, entering a new page name in the dialog box, pressing enter, and then completing the form [10:49:57] yes i know, but for me is impossible .. i'm a master student of Oporto, and i'm trying to use SMW for my thesis project. No one will pay me to go to the conference :( [10:51:17] But the codes and terminologies i don't know, for example, create a new box with Semantic Forms [10:51:23] then you can look forward to many hours of testing, trying and asking here and on the mailing list [10:51:39] do you already know SMW itself? [10:52:05] no .. [10:52:07] do you have experience with MW without SMW? [10:52:15] no .. [10:52:26] then you've got a REAL challenge ahead [10:52:41] I'd advise to first play with MW without any extension! [10:52:52] maybe buy the O'Reilly book [10:53:07] there's just WAY too much to learn in one fell swoop [10:53:37] begin with http://shop.oreilly.com/product/9780596519681.do and a clean MW install [10:55:51] yes .. and after this .. [10:56:52] Then install SMW, and learn semantics [10:57:26] create examples of whatever you want to do for your thesis, without the help of Semantic Forms [10:58:00] SF is mainly a usability tool, that helps inexperienced users - but the forms need to be created by experienced users [10:59:05] yes, it's the problem because i'm a experienced user !! [10:59:23] but i need to learn, firstly [10:59:46] New review: Netbrain; "Im going back on my previous statement.. You should NEVER duplicate code, instead you should extract..." [mediawiki/extensions/SemanticMaps] (master) C: -1; - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/23942 [10:59:58] i read a lot of wiki pages about SMW, but for me is very confused [11:01:29] MarianaG: I thought you said you had no experience with MW? [11:02:10] yes and i said [11:02:39] i know MW but i dont have experience with [11:03:07] and the same, i know SMW but i dont have experience [11:04:17] therefor I advised to start playing with a bare MW install and gain that experience [11:06:23] ok .. i will start with that [11:07:12] ok have fun and good luck [11:07:17] then if i have doubts i will write here on chat? [11:08:25] thank you for your attention [11:08:32] no prob [11:08:42] MW specific questions are better directed at #mediawiki [11:08:53] ok ok [11:08:57] thanks [11:09:05] when you're comfortable with administering and authoring in MW, you can advance to extensions [11:09:19] sure :) [11:09:29] install stuff like ParserFunctions, Variables and ImageMap [11:09:41] and when that's clear, go for the big prize: SMW itself :-D [11:10:21] steep learning curve wrapping your head around the semantic concepts, creating an information model, annotating some articles, and then querying for them [11:10:54] once that's clear, you can create semantic forms that help inexperienced users create/edit pages without being bothered by semantic details [11:26:57] New review: Jeroen De Dauw; "Putting the map editor into it's own repo seems like to much overhead given that there is no decent ..." In the meantime, the bug's status changed to "unconfirmed", the strange behaviour, though, is still present. does anyone know how to get rid of it? thanks in advance [12:57:50] sorry for bothering you, but it is vital for me to know: is it possible that SIO names are namespace indifferent, that is there could exist in one wiki SIO that have the same name and in consequence they cannot be queried by SCQ? [mediawiki/extensions/SemanticTitle] (devel) - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/24461 [19:03:27] Sorry for bothering you, but I'm coping with a really annoying problem with SCQ that I couldn't resolve. My bug (38711) was marked as 'unconfirmed', so it is sign for me that is my compound query that doesn't work. I do not know, however, where precisely. [19:05:52] I would be therefore grateful if someone could give me any hint on how should one construct compund queries as to make them retrieve Semantic Internal Objects that have the same name, but differ in namespaces, eg. A:X, B:X. [19:07:50] You can view the queries that I have problem with at http://scriptores.pl/munchen/index.php?title=Mod%C3%A8le:Hyperlemme&action=edit . Its processing at http://scriptores.pl/munchen/index.php/Depost make only "unique" results appear (the last map and table), although the SIO that are retrieved come from different namespaces and should not be treated as duplicates [19:08:07] Any help will be appreciated [19:18:44] nov - yes... that's a problem in SIO, actually, not in SCQ. [19:19:14] SIO doesn't store the namespace, unfortunately, when it stores the name of the internal object. [19:19:27] It's a bug that I hope to fix in the next version. [19:23:27] Yaron - thank you very much for your answer! After my bug was marked as "unconfirmed" I spent a lot of time in search of my query error. I will be waiting for a fix. Thank you for your wonderful work! [19:24:15] Sure - and it's too bad that the bug report was mishandled... [19:27:19] Yaron - anyway, you (I mean devs of SMW) do a great job! Have a nice day/evening! [19:27:43] nov_ - great, thank you, and you too! [22:05:50] How do I add a dropdown to a page, not a form, that lets me select one of the values for a property which has a set of "allowed values"? I want to use the value selected to launch a generated URL... do I need to implement this in js directly or is there a way to use features already present in semantic-mw/semantic-forms? [22:07:35] voldial - I don't think there's a feature for that. [22:11:35] Hey Yaron, on no big deal there are 10 other ways to get the same thing done... working on one of them now. [22:12:29] How do I #ask for all the "allows value" for a property? I tried {{#ask:[[Property:Vendor]]}|?Allows value} but that's not it... my property name here is Vendor [22:30:55] voldial - the curly braces in there look a little messed up. [22:43:21] sorry. was just getting made fun of that here [22:43:29] thanks [23:33:58] if I do {{#ask:[[Property:Vendor]] |?Allows value# -n =|mainlabel=-}} it returns the allowed values for Vendor:: but it returns them as one monolithic string... so if I pass it to a template {{{1}}} ends up being a comma separated string... is there a optput format that fixes this or do I need to do some crazy parser-function stuff and manually unroll it with #loop and #explode? [23:42:34] aah arraydefine takes a delim. that should do it..
