[15:14:08] can either one of you give any tips for multilingual semantic wikis (I'm supposed to convert one monolingual to multilingual) [15:14:32] Well, there are different approaches. [15:14:51] let's assume single wiki database [15:15:34] Is the idea to store semantic info in multiple languages, or just one? [15:17:14] In other words, will there be a "master" language that holds the real data, or will that too be spread out across languages? [15:21:34] Yaron: for now the 'content' is in single language [15:21:47] there has been some talk for allowing creation of content in other languages to [15:21:51] too [15:22:04] but even being able to localise content display and data input would be helpful [15:22:57] Nikerabbit - well, localizing display is easier than localizing input. [15:23:17] Is the idea to have pages in the form "page name/language code"? [15:24:23] Yaron: nope [15:24:48] Yaron: our content are concept (term) entries [15:26:26] http://tieteentermipankki.fi/wiki/Kasvitiede:intiini [15:27:10] the displayed data is to some extend language independent, if we translate the labels and values [15:29:17] Oh, so this is a Wiktionary-type thing? [15:29:28] How many languages are involved, by the way? [15:32:06] Oh, looks like six. [15:33:04] Never mind - nine! [15:33:35] I don't know... I think the only really workable option might be to have a separate wiki for each language, even though that seems like a lot of work. [15:33:44] It'll probably actually be less work. [15:34:04] You can just use the same code base, and a different DB, for each one. [15:42:25] Yaron: Finnish is the primary language, we might include Swedish and few others languages spoken in Finland [15:42:58] doesn't make sense to split the databases [15:45:32] Nikerabbit - so how many languages altogether? [15:59:01] New patchset: Nischayn22; "Implementation of new Special Property ASK" [mediawiki/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki] (querycache) - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/17953 [16:00:55] Yaron: only three or so languages with (maybe) primary content [16:02:42] Nikerabbit - well, I would recommend just having the data stored in Finnish, and only displaying content in other languages. [16:02:46] At least to start with. [16:03:25] Yaron: and how to best go with that? [16:03:42] is it possible to translate property names or values? [16:04:35] Yes - there's some extension/parser function that lets you do that; I think it's called "MultiLang", or something like that. [16:07:51] New patchset: Nischayn22; "fix minor bug" [mediawiki/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki] (master) - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/18100 [16:17:40] New review: Jeroen De Dauw; "Neat catch :)" [mediawiki/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki] (master); V: 1 C: 2; - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/18100 [16:17:40] Change merged: Jeroen De Dauw; [mediawiki/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki] (master) - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/18100
