[08:45:45] Hi Channel. I am a newbie and have just got my new wiki https://moma.miraheze.org/wiki/ which I am starting to edit. I need some advice please. I am coming back to webistes after a long break - don't have any programming skills but remember HTMl and the basics of CSS etc. Anyway the fisrt thing I have done is chage the skin to Tweeki because I like the look of it and want to build a website that more or less has the same kind of [08:45:46] rosie: 2021-05-12 - 10:31:25UTC tell rosie , oh that's great, no problem, glad everything worked out :) [08:45:46] structure as the Tweeki EXAMPLE https://tweeki.kollabor.at/wiki/ ...I havef [08:45:47] [ Museum of Moving Art ] - moma.miraheze.org [08:45:48] [ Tweeki ] - tweeki.kollabor.at [08:48:36] MiraHezeBot thanks --- I am beginning to think it was a mistake to change the skin before adding some content to the site as I have no structure. I am a visual thinker that is why I wanted to change the skin first .... I am wondering .... [08:50:23] now I have the skin changed do I need to implement the changes listed here https://tweeki.kollabor.at/wiki/Configuration_Options or.... [08:50:24] [ Configuration Options - Tweeki ] - tweeki.kollabor.at [08:51:18] would it be best to revert to the default skin, build some structure and content and then change the skin to Tweeki??? [08:58:05] It seems beyond my skill level but I am willing to have a go at addressing the Configuration Options if somebody is will ing to hold my hand through it... [08:58:52] Bootstrap 4 [08:58:52] $wgTweekiSkinUseBootstrap4 = false; [08:58:52] Set this variable to true if you want to use Boostrap 4 instead of Bootstrap 3. Note that there are changes in the markup! v1.2.0+ [08:59:04] DoI want Bootstrap 4? [09:02:11] Is there anyway I can get the new vector that the MWF is testing? [09:04:14] Or does it need 1.6 mw? [09:57:06] dmehus it didn't work out too well as now I can't seem to add pages or navigate anywhere with the Tweeki skin. I am thinking I should revert to the default skin and build content forts(and skills) and then try and implement the Tweeki skin. [09:59:09] build content and skills before trying and implement the Tweeki skin.... skin changing seem non-trivial, complex for a beginner [10:13:32] @rosie, oh I'm not too sure, you could try that. There is probably some Tweeki-specific CSS classes, I think [10:14:10] did you add those specific classes to your MediaWiki:Common.css and/or MediaWiki:Tweeki.css file? [10:14:39] You might also ask @Lake on Discord about this, as he's fairly familiar with the Tweeki skin and CSS broadly :) [10:15:22] but yeah, you could definitely revert to Vector and build your wiki in that, then eventually customize your Tweeki styling [10:15:56] BurningPrincess1, supposedly it's enabled on Miraheze already in MW 1.35. You should be able to enable it in your Special:Preferences [10:17:19] dmehus: Oh the "Use Legancy Vector" one [10:18:05] I think I prefer the new look just from a quick look, prefer the white/offwhite sidebar over the darker color [10:22:12] dmehus no I didn't make those changes. Thank you for your advice. I will revert to Vector and start again. I have a big learning curve before I can handle the styling skin matters. In way too deep :-) [10:26:19] How will I get the vector skin updates, and just the skin updates for my wiki? [10:26:44] (my self hosted one), I kinda want to keep Vec updated, but only update mw as needed [10:40:15] Is 1.36 LTS mediawiki? [12:01:12] dmehus: hewllo, what do you ned? [12:01:14] need* [12:29:44] Can someone make a nice fount page for my finished content wiki? Was thinking of having an into text bnox, an image, fetred pages and maybe recacnt changes link? [12:30:08] It is not something I can do very well, I lost my main page on a wiki move. [14:12:12] @Lake, oh rosie ^ above was just having difficulties with building their wiki using Tweeki as their default skin, and I wondered if it was because Tweeki has a lot of CSS classifies they had to define in their MediaWiki:Common.css or MediaWiki:Tweeki.css file. [14:12:47] I know you've asked about updating Tweeki / if we've updated Tweeki, so figured you might be familiar [14:13:13] They reverted their skin and are going to build their wiki for Vector first, then possibly work on Tweeki later [14:16:28] @Doug sent you a dm [14:28:43] Hey, how would you set the skin to use the new vbector by default? [14:36:25] BurningPrincess1, I don't believe that part is available until MediaWiki 1.36. [14:46:08] dmehus: ok, looks like I will be waiting for like 2+ years then [14:48:34] How long does it take a request on the Commaty Noticeboard to be replied to? [14:53:12] it can depend [14:53:25] but usually not way too long [15:24:56] @lake do you think you could help with making a pretty main page for my nwiki with css? [15:36:31] :DoneMH: Replied and handled [15:51:46] * BurningPrincess1 gives @doug a flower [17:13:18] Hi [17:22:53] @Doug oh, it's not difficult to customize Tweeki, I can help [17:23:03] BurningPrincess1 probably yes [17:28:17] @lake thank you, I was thinking the top 3 boxes on the wiki[edia main page, same layout and colors, arrganed in the same way, but using css over templates [17:29:47] @lake my ideas and stuff are here: https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Community_noticeboard#Main_page_help [17:29:51] [ Community noticeboard - Miraheze Meta ] - meta.miraheze.org [17:34:51] BurningPrincess1: could you make a image (even if it's on paint) with the layout, so I can visualise better? [17:39:01] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page @lake like this [17:39:02] [WIKIPEDIA] Main Page | "" [17:39:26] Unless you can think of any better ideas [17:43:54] I will take a look soon [17:44:13] (I can't now because I'm waiting a package) [17:46:14] I won't mind you adding your own flar to it if needed [18:02:28] @lake any ideas for my main page? I was wanting fetred pages on it, links to main content and the backstory at lest. Any other ideas? [20:49:37] @Doug will you close the RfC today? [20:49:45] if so, what do you think about the result so far? [20:59:17] @lake Sorry if I am asking too much [21:01:33] no problem, I'm doing it rn [21:02:00] Thank you so much :) [22:06:08] Oh, cool. Thanks. Saw your reply to Rosie; that's helpful 🙂 [22:06:37] BurningPrincess1, thanks for the 🌻 [22:08:24] No, I won't as I expressed views. That one will likely be closed by John. It'll be tough to close, I think. Depends how consensus is viewed. Personally, I do feel there's a strong consensus against a serif font and a strong consensus for a sans serif font. However, as to which font, that is less clear. Might have to let it run a few more days [22:08:56] alright [22:09:17] see reply ^ [22:09:26] thanks 🙂
